One of Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico’s main aims is to stem the flow of forgery and counterfeit artwork.  To this end, the Foundation offers an authentication service to private collectors, galleries, auction houses and museums.

In order to proceed with this service, the owner of a work is asked to first send in the following photographic material:

• 5 black and white professional photographs of the front of the work (18 x 24 cm)
• 3 black and white professional photographs of the back of the work (18 x 24 cm)
• 2 colour photographs (18 x 24 cm) of the front of the work
• 2 colour photographs (18 x 24 cm) of the back of the work
• 1 colour transparency, with colour scale, of the front of the work (6 x 9 cm)
• 1 black and white professional photograph (18 x 24 cm) of the signature and edition number (for sculptures only)
• 1 black and white professional photograph (18 x 24 cm) of the foundry stamp (for sculptures only)

The photographic material should be accompanied by a letter with a brief description about the work (including title, technique and measurements) as well as information regarding the work’s provenance. This material will be retained by the Foundation for archival purposes. Please note that digital images do not constitute acceptable alternatives to professional hard-copy photographs. If the Foundation is unable to find reference of the work within its archives, the owner will be asked to send it to our Rome premises to be examined by our specialist committee. Upon examination, should the work prove to have the necessary criteria to include it in the Archive of authentic works by Giorgio de Chirico, the owner will be sent an official authenticity certificate in the form of a non-duplicable black and white photograph of the work. Alternatively, should the work prove to lack sufficient elements with which to include it in the Archive, the owner will receive an official letter to this effect. Further specifications:

• The authentication service applies to paintings, drawings, watercolours and sculptures and does not include lithographs, engravings or posthumous multiple sculptural editions;
• Should the owner of the work have lost an authenticity certificate originally issued by Claudio Bruni Sakraischik or by the Foundation, the Foundation will not issue, under any circumstances, a duplicate certificate;
• The Foundation does not provide economic valuations for works of art for insurance or commercial purposes.
